Ann took this picture of me on the bridge. I have a fear of heights and bridges in particular, but I managed to walk across. I wouldn't drive the car over, though. I think they no longer allow cars to be driven on the bridge. The bridge was built in 1929 and is 1,053 feet above the surface of the river.
We went over the bridge and explored the other side of the gorge. This photo looks back toward the entrance to the gorge in the west. Click here to see a much larger (1270x555) version of this photo. The people on the bridge are easier to see in the larger image. Click here to see a large vertical strip (300x1424) scanned from the top to bottom of image. It shows more of the bottom of the gorge. The railroad tracks and power/telegraph poles are easier to see. If your browser resizes the images to fit a small display, you should be able to click on the corner and enlarge to image then scroll to see all of it.
This gives a look back to the cable car terminal on the north side of the gorge. Bridges are bad enough, but I'll take a bridge before a cable car anytime. (Nothing to grab when it falls, you see!)
