The Arkansas River
| We visited in the Cañon City area for awhile and then drove west toward Salida. The highway drops into the Arkansas River valley west of the Royal Gorge and follows the river to Salida. The railroad follows the other bank from Cañon City through the Gorge. This telephoto shot brings the distant view up for close observation. The view is upstream toward the west. |
| This view from a roadside riverside park is toward the east downstream. The day was overcaste and that reduces the contrast of these river photos. It even hailed for a few minutes. |
