The
Fall Festival was one of the first community outreach programs that Bro. Daily
proposed. Although Shadycrest had held fall parties for children of church
members and friends as an alternative to Halloween celebrations, the parties
were usually held at members' homes and were not open to the general public.
Bro. Daily's vision was a community wide Fall Festival that would be free to the
public. Bro. Daily's wife, Sonja, helped plan and organize the first Fall
Festival and it has become very popular with members and the community. People
attending the Fall Festival for the first time are usually amazed that, not only
are the games and attractions free, but the refreshments are too.
The
Festival began with simple homemade activities such as a 'fish pond,' cake walk,
ring toss, face painting, petting zoo, and the like. It has grown to include
commercial games and amusements and participation by community organizations as
shown in the photos of the 2001 Fall Festival. (Click the photo.) And it is
still free to the public!

This chart shows the current status of the membership of Shadycrest Baptist
Church. After five years of growth, the current active membership comes from
several churches in the local area, other churches throughout the state and
nation, and new Christians baptized at Shadycrest. The largest group (32%)
transferred from First Baptist Church of Pearland. The next largest group (25%)
transferred from many different churches outside the local area. Next at 14% are
those who were baptized at Shadycrest then those (8%) who have been members for
more than five years. Members transferring from Gulf Meadows (7%), Sagemont
(4%), FBC Manvel (3%), and Garden Road (3%) make up the rest.
The church
has a 'FAITH' evangelism program that is effectively reaching out to the lost in
the community. As a result of this outreach 25 new Christians were baptized
during the organizational year; a record number of baptisms for
Shadycrest.
A total of 65 new members joined Shadycrest this year.
Sixty-four members were lost (20% of those were members who died during the
year). Our total membership is now 770. It is estimated that about 295 of our
members have moved away, joined other churches without requesting a membership
change, or have just become inactive. That leaves an estimated active membership
of about 475.
The church has more than doubled its property to
approximately 10 acres and now has access to Yost Road as well as Hamm Road.
There are two residences on the new property; one in use as a parsonage and the
other is used for overflow Sunday School classrooms. The Girl Scouts and a
home-schooling group also meet there.
The Office Annex, Sunday School
Annex, and the new Children's Ministry Building have added the capacity to
minister to an average of 400 each Sunday. We still have room to grow since we
currently average 200 to 300 in attendance.
Our Youth Minister, Clint Gray, is now on the field. Continue to the next page to see how our Youth Ministry has grown under his leadership.
