Some Photos from an early 60s Skipper Reunion

These Skipper Reunion photos were scanned from negatives in the collection of Irving Skipper. David William "Irving" was the second child of James Arthur Skipper, Sr. Irving's grandfather was David James Skipper and his great grandfather was Joseph W. Skipper. It is my belief, based on Irving's full name, that Joseph Skipper's middle initial stood for William. For some reason I had at first thought these were made in 1966. However, Ira Skipper has been identified in two of the photos and he died in early 1964. So these must have been made in 1962 or perhasps as late as July 1963.

The Ray and Ida Bostian Family
The Don and Ida Bostian Family

Ida Saxton Skipper was the oldest daughter of John Quincy Skipper and his wife Mary Magdaline Sands. John "Red John" was the older brother of James Arthur Skipper, Sr., my paternal grandfather. They were sons of David James Skipper who came to Arkansas from North Carolina via Tennessee in 1856 with his father Joseph W. Skipper and the rest of the family.

Standing behind Ida and Don are their children: Dalene, Shirley, Muriel, and Ray Don.

Annie Lee Skipper was the second child of John Quincy and Mary Magdaline. She married Claude Evans and is shown here with their children. From left to right they are Irene, Magdalene, Florene, William "Bill or Buddy," Ida Mae, and Juanita.

Willie Krisell
Willie Noland Krisell and others.

Willie Krisell is sitting on the left in the blue dress with small white dots. She was named for her father, William Franklin Noland, who died just before she was born. She was my Grandmother Skipper's little sister. They had two older sisters, Nola and Sydney. Nola (are Nolar, as she was called) died in 1941, the year I was born, and Sydney died in 1964.

Willie married David Lindsey Krisell, who was one of Florence Skipper Krisell's sons. Florence was my Grandfather Skipper's oldest sister. This photo shows three of Willie's children, I believe. I think that's Walton on this side of Willie and two of the daughters are on the other side.

The womam across from Willie is either Reta or Reba one of the twins of Carl Toby Skipper. Carl was my Grandfather Skipper's younger brother. I'm not sure who the older man is. I just received an email (1/22/14) from Sonny Davis who says that the woman is his grandmother, Reta (pronounced rid-uh) Skipper Gibbs whose only daughter, Patricia Ann, is his mother. Reta married Vonnie B. Gibbs in England, Arkansas, and they are buried there in Mulberry Cemetery.

Billy Skipper Bill Skipper
Some Skippers

The man in the photo on the right is Billy Frank Skipper, who had a career as an Arkansas State Trooper. He is the son of Arthur "Son" Skipper and Mae Evans. Arthur was a son of John Quincy Skipper, my Grandfather Skipper's older brother. There were three brothers and six sisters in Dave and Kate Skipper's family. The sons were John Quincy Skipper, James Arthur Skipper, and Carl Toby Skipper. The daughters' stories are at Dave Skipper's Daughters.

The young boy in the photo on the left is Billy's son Billy Ray Skipper, who also grew up to be an Arkansas State Trooper. He is standing by his grandmother, Mae Evans Skipper. Billy Ray had two children, Ronny James Skipper and Erika Nicole Skipper.
